Biography

Cinzia Leone is a journalist, writer of graphic novels, illustrator, cartoonist and art director. She was in the founding group of Il Male, La Nuova Ecologia and Il Riformista. She has contributed articles and cartoons to Il Corriere della Sera, Io Donna, Amica, Il Sole 24Ore, L’Espresso, Repubblica, Smemoranda, Gambero Rosso, L’Osservatore Romano, and Il Foglio. She has published two novels with Bompiani: Liberabile and Cellophane (winner of the 2018 Margherita Rosa Prize). She designed the costumes and scenery for the performance of the opera Carmen at Spoleto in 1995. She drew the cartoons for an advertisement for one edition of the Sanremo Festival. Her illustrations accompanied the interviews of Alberto Angela’s TV programme L’Italia delle meraviglie. She has taught at the European Design Institute and at the Business School of Il Sole24ore. She has published five graphic novels: Il diamante dell’Haganah (Rizzoli), Hotel Habanera (Editori del Grifo, with Paolo Conte and Vincenzo Mollica) Atelier David (Editori del Grifo), Quel fantastico treno (AdnKronos, with Hugo Pratt, Guido Crepax, José Muñoz and Lorenzo Mattotti), and Come conquistare le donne (Comix). She won the Yellow Kid prize for the best author in 1998-1999.
