Piemonte, Manuela

Manuela Piemonte was born in Milan in 1978. An honours graduate in LatinAmerican literature, with a thesis on Julio Cortázar from Rome’s La Sapienza university and a diploma in Screenwriting from the Civica Scuola di Cinema in Milano, she works as a screenwriter and editor. As well as this, she translates narrative and poetry into Italian from English and Spanish. She lives between Milan and Rome. Her stories have appeared in magazines and collections: Giallo Mondadori, Linus, Cattedrale, Subway Edizioni, Subway Tabloid, the series Toscana tra Crimini e Misteri in La Nazione, and the literary review Storie. She has twice received a special mention in the Premio Europea Pisa awards for authors of noir stories in 2007 and 2008 and won the Subway Literature award in 2013. In 2016, as a writer of screenplays, she was a finalist in the Solinas award and her one-act play Nylon was one of the winners of the international screenwiters’ award PopDrama. As a ghostwriter, she has written several children’s books, whilst Garden, her dystopian novel for young people, has been published in Italy (Mondadori, 2013) and in Spain (Anaya, 2014) under the pseudonym Emma Romero.
