Towards Writing
Original title: Vers l’écriture
Synopsis
A profoundly original approach to writing workshops, through an open and generous transmission story.
The author started experiencing writing workshops in the 1960s, and she has gone on ever since, with a lot of different audiences: schools, firms that were facing redundancies, prisons… This text does not have anything to do with “a writing class”. It helps readers doing away from their fears; it is a key for grounded writing and a feeling of freedom to write whatever people wish.
“What did I want to share? My taste for language and literature? Certainly, but not only that. There is something else. How thoughts arise and finally find their peaceful base. And how then can we live our relationship with the world in a free, thoughtful way. Obviously more complex and therefore more demanding. This transmission has political value for me. A person who really writes, really reads, is less malleable. It has its own “density”. Today more than ever, this is a necessity for me. This freedom of mine, which I have conquered step by step, I need to share it. Perhaps this is its limit? But there you have it, my commitment to the world is there. I am not a woman who belongs to a political party. I am not an activist. I am a woman who has long understood that writing leads to great freedom, and that in this world where the space for thought is shrinking, it was necessary for me to do my part.”
