The Paris Way
Original title: Du côté de Paris
Synopsis
For his fourth book with Seghers, Stéphane Manel explores Paris.
Stéphane Manel has already published two four-handed works with Seghers. With Corinne Maier and Franck Maubert, he co-authors Monsieur Proust and Bacon, éclats d’une vie in 2022 and 2023 respectively. With Exercices de Staël in 2024, Manel who was first known as an illustrator definitively established himself as an author in the French-speaking literary landscape by signing a book, text and drawing, in his own name. Stéphane Manel confirms this status today with Du côté de Paris, in which he once again displays his renowned talent as an artist and opens the doors to his creative and intimate world, this time in Paris.
In this fourth graphic novel, at the crossroads of personal narrative and history of art, Stéphane Manel approaches the city he grew up in as a veritable object of fascination. In the same way that he took an interest in the worlds of Proust, Bacon and de Staël to tell their stories, here, through the prism of its streets and architecture, he grasps all the artistic and cultural wealth that Paris abounds in a work riddled with literary, pictorial, cinematographic and other references and haunted by a host of charming ghosts. By infusing the places with his unique vision, Stéphane Manel reveals a personal side of the artist and author he is.
