Original title: Ce qui reste des hommes

Synopsis

Diane, who has reached that point where she longer cares to disclose her age, visits an undertaker’s to buy a concession but ends up with a plot intended for two coffins… In the course of a Bohemian life, Diane has loved many men, left some of them, been left by others, and has buried the one who mattered most to her. In short, she is now on her own and doesn’t even have a cat anymore. But she has no intention of remaining in solitude in the afterlife. And so with the help of her oldest female friend, she seeks out her former lovers who are still alive in the hope of finding one who is prepared to be her companion in the big sleep.

This novel, which blends the serious and the whimsical, life and death, love and solitude, and wonder and sorrow serves up portraits of two disreputable and wonderfully inspiring elderly women between whom there exists a delicious complicity
