The Last Name of Flowers
Original title: Le dernier nom des fleurs
Synopsis
They built perfect harmony, but surviving the dictatorship of benevolence comes at a price.
22nd century: Earth has been drained of its resources and ravaged by ecological disasters. To survive, women have taken power, imposing benevolence and order through a caste system. Visionary engineers, unyielding leaders, inspired creators, mysterious mothers, heroic saviours: each plays a vital role in this fragile balance. All obey the ondo, an omnipresent helmet that transmits the voice of the Benefactors, guiding thoughts, desires and actions.
But Dahlia, a third-class engineer, begins to have doubts. Who is really pulling the strings? Why do mothers never carry boys in their arms? And above all… where have the men gone?
When Rose, a rescuer isolated in the desert, discovers the unthinkable—a man in the flesh, alive and well—the established order begins to falter.
Between a quest for truth and a desperate escape, two destinies intersect and spark a rebellion. For behind this imposed utopia lies a secret capable of blowing everything apart.
A dystopian world much closer to our own than it seems.
