The Battle for Peace and Joy
Original title: De slag om Rust & Vreugd
Synopsis
Bestselling author Hendrik Groen returns with the sequel of Peace and Joy!
On a sunny day in April, widow Emma Quaadvliegh decided to rent a small house and garden in community garden complex called Rust en Vreugd, in search for distraction and not in the slightest hindered by already too green thumbs. She made new friends, but was also confronted with the wondrous world of hedge checks, building committees and feuds between ‘old’ and ‘new’ gardeners. Along with her garden friends united in the lightly subversive club Klavertje Vier, she was able to undermine the regime of chairman Harm van Velsen.
Now, Emma’s first year at the garden complex is over and she hopes that this year the atmosphere of the complex will stay true to its name. She, her new dog Nelson and her favorite neighbor Roos are looking forward to it anyhow. But conflicts about the way the complex should be ruled are smoldering and could at any moment blaze up again. One spark is enough: a fight about overhanging branches and badly organized member meetings, users of pesticides and cultivators of weeds. But the biggest threat comes from the local authorities. This will be, as states by Roos, gladioli or death.
