Savageries
Original title: Sauvageries
Synopsis
Taína is a Taíno, a native of the Greater Antilles string of islands “discovered” by the Spanish in 1492. But first and foremost she is a shaman, initiated into the art since childhood and the repository of the rituals and beliefs of her people. In love with a foreigner who is smitten by the way of life she embraces, she survives the extermination of the rest of her kind. Encouraged to write by a perceptive Dominican, she decides to tell the story of the Taíno people from beyond the communal grave so that they will never fall into oblivion.
This book is her manuscript – a sensitive and hard-hitting novel about love and war.
