Returning to Palermo
Original title: Revoir Palerme
Synopsis
Since she was born, Constance has had a close bond with her grandmother, a true Parisian who left the capital only once in her life for a single adventure: the filming of Luchino Visconti’s cult movie, The Leopard. That was in 1962, in Palermo. A costume designer behind the scenes of the film, Rose has memories of that time she constantly revisits in her dreams, along with the scent of orange blossom that a mysterious sender has been mailing her every spring for the past sixty years.
In the twilight of her life, and despite her fading memory, Rose implores her granddaughter: “Please go back to Palermo. Fulfill my promise, I was so cowardly! Go ask for forgiveness on my behalf, so that I can die in peace.”
To keep this promise and out of love for her grandmother, Constance arrives in Sicily with only a few clues: a perfume and an address. For the rest, the magic of the city will guide her to Rose’s final secret. She will have to tame wild Palermo, capture its voices, its sounds, its colors, its smells, its flavors, and what hearts have kept unsaid.
On the trail of the leopard, in the maze of Palermo’s streets, amid the splendor of its palaces and the spells of its history, Constance will find her own way.
