Paterson created legendary works for Madonna and Michael Jackson including Madonna’s Blond Ambition Tour, her Marie Antoinette Vogue performance for MTV and the choreography for her videos Express Yourself and Vogue. For Michael Jackson—with whom he worked for over 17 years—Paterson created the Bad Tour, as well as videos for Smooth Criminal, Blood on the Dance Floor among others.
Among the many films he choreographed, he directed the musical sequences in Lars Von Trier’s Dancer In The Dark, The Birdcage, Closer, Hook. He has also directed and choreographed many operas, plays and movies all over the world.
In this autobiography, he recounts some of his out-of-the-ordinary encounters, intense rehearsals, tours, the disappointments and successes, up until his most recent collaborations. It’s a dive into the very heart of the world of dance that reveals its importance in our world of images.
