NOVEL
(Incultes)
Ségurian is a mountain village of four hundred souls, of hunters and of traditions. Guillaume Levasseur, a determined and idealistic young man, decides to take over a sheep farm in this far-flung and idyllic corner of France – a place where nature’s laws rule. Viewed like a curious animal by the inhabitants of the village, Guillaume works relentlessly to turn the farm into a going concern. A new life starts to take shape, but his flock grazes on land that has always been the preserve of wild boar hunters. Disagreements quickly give rise to tensions, and then to harassment, and ultimately to violence.
La certitude des pierres probes these souls hardened by isolation, the monotony of the days, the hostility of the mountains and the harsh life they engender, everyday petty-mindedness and the fear of the unknown and the outsider. Jérôme Bonnetto depicts the narrow-mindedness of men, the unfathomable enigma of their dreams and the immensity of their folly.
