Back to School With Your Head Straight
Original title: La Rentrée – sans tête
Synopsis
Susie Morgenstern, bestselling French-American children’s book author, tells a story that will de-dramatize going back to school.
This story follows Max, a young boy who will start first grade. He is a bit distracted while he packs his bag for the first day of school—it’s tomorrow! His mom must remind him: keep your head on straight, Max.
Max wakes up the next day and eats breakfast. He is stressed and nervous. But this disappears when he finally arrives at the playground. He hasn’t seen his friends in so long!
Throughout the school day, Max loses a few things—his pencil case here, his sweater there. But that’s OK! He’s having fun and learning.
At the end of the day, his mom picks him up. She asks him how he has managed to lose all of his possessions like that! He reassures her, pointing to his brain: “Don’t worry, mom, I still have my head on straight.”
Susie Morgenstern makes the back-to-school season exciting. This album aims to help calm the anxiety children may feel before the Big Day.
The charming illustrations of Églantine Ceulemans, a young and talented artist, illuminate this book with joy and humour. She is rigorous, precise and attentive to the smallest details. She has set a colourful tone to Susie Morgenstern’s narrative, one that is sure to be amusing and universal.
