A Treasure. A Gulpable Novel

Original title: Un Trésor. Roman à boire

Synopsis

The story of a woman who leaves everything behind for a crazy endeavor: winemaking. A powerful novel about self-discovery, learning, and passing on knowledge.

At fifty, Madeleine closes the door on a life that has become too small. She leaves Brittany, her worn-out marriage and her flower shop behind to settle alone on an abandoned vineyard deep in the Loire Valley, with a mad dream: to make her own wine.

She knows nothing about the seasons of the vineyard, the capricious yeasts, or the harvest at dawn. Nothing either of the secret of the village: a crazy old man, long dead, who bragged about a legendary treasure.

What she thought of an exile becomes a quest, in which she’ll have to face solitude, discouragement, and sidelong glances. She will fail and get back up again. Hope appears in the form of Anaïs, her granddaughter, who comes to help. Madeleine will pass on to her what she knows and Anaïs, an oenologist, will teach her grandmother what she knows. Both will come to understand that the real treasure isn’t gold or land, but the bravery it takes to love, dare, and give.

With humor and generosity, Un Trésor tells the story of a woman’s rebirth and the invisible legacy we leave behind. It celebrates tired yet resilient bodies, grape stained hands, the beauty of the vineyards and the caress of wine.

A deeply modern novel about wine rooted in the Loire region, it is a story of earth, land, and life, celebrating those who cultivate it and the determined quest of one woman—soon joined by another—while exploring sisterhood, intergenerational transmission, the beauty of solidarity, and the bonds that unite us, all carried by a joyful language infused with poetry and gentleness.
