Biography

Michèle Petit is an anthropologist and member of the LADYSS laboratory (Dynamiques sociales et recomposition des espaces) (CNRS-Université Paris I). Her research on reading focuses on the relationship with books and libraries, reading in spaces in crisis and its role in the construction of the self. Following her works, she has taken a closer look at the contribution of reading to the construction or reconstruction of the self, particularly in times of crisis. Her books include Éloge de la lecture : la construction de soi (Belin, 2002); L’art de lire ou comment résister à l’adversité (Belin, 2008); Lire le monde. Expériences de transmission culturelle aujourd’hui (2014).
