Biography
Bernard Kouchner is a physician and founder of Doctors Without Borders and Doctors of the World. He was a minister in various French governments, and is an emblematic figure of the humanitarian cause. Doctors Without Borders received the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize.
Adam Michnik, the great intellectual of Eastern Europe and legendary dissident, has rebelled against Communist hegemony and the role of Russia since his high school years, and was imprisoned several times. Hero of the Polish trade union federation Solidarność, he is the founder of Gazeta Wyborcza, Poland's largest newspaper.
