Carpenter, Don

Biography

Carpenter published ten novels during his lifetime, and he had a successful career as a screenwriter, living for long periods in Hollywood. After years of poor health he committed suicide in Mill Valley in 1995. Last month at the Book Club of California in San Francisco, Counterpoint partnered with City Lights Book Store to pay tribute to Don Carpenter and Fridays at Enrico's. All stars like Peter Coyote, Curt Gentry, Louis B. Jones, Anne Lamott, and Jane Vandenburgh came together for a standing-room-only event where they discussed Carpenter's life and works, read, and honored the author.
