Tracking. From Dream to Action

Original title: Spoor zoeken. De Wildlife Forensic Academy

Author: Vos, Andro

Synopsis

Andro Vos, an employee of the Netherlands Forensic Institute, ends up one day in South Africa at a crime scene where a rhinoceros has just been killed. In a flash, he realizes that everything we know about forensic investigation in a human context is of immeasurable value at this crime scene. In the fight against international criminals who kill endangered animals—and who are often just as active in arms trafficking, human trafficking, drugs, and terrorism. Surely, he can’t be the first to think of this? All too soon it becomes clear to him that, unfortunately, he is.

Andro resigns in order to realize his dream: the Wildlife Forensic Academy as a beacon in the battle against serious organized crime. A training institute where semi-literate park rangers learn how to collect evidence as effectively as possible—the foundation of every conviction.
How big is wildlife crime, really? How dangerous is poaching to global health? And above all: how do you turn a dream of making the world a better place into reality?

Tracking is the story of a boy who, at the age of 8, moved from Suriname to the Netherlands and who, at the peak of his career, makes a drastic decision to embark on a new adventure on the other side of the world. An adventure full of unexpected challenges, sudden opportunities, and new knowledge. A dream that begins at a crime scene. In Kruger Park.
