Campos, Simone

Biography

Simone Campos made her literary debut as a 17-year old, with the novella No shopping (“In the Shopping Centre”, 2000), becoming well-known in Brazil. Then came the novel A feia noite (“Nasty Nights”, 2006) and the short story collection Amostragem complexa (“Complex Sampling”, 2009). Her choose-your-own-adventure-inspired OWNED – Um novo jogador (“OWNED, a New Player”) was published both as a physical book and as an interactive website in 2011. In 2014, she released the novel A vez de morrer (“Time To Die”) through Companhia das Letras. In 2019, the same publisher will release her new novel, a thriller: Nada vai acontecer com você (“Nothing Can Hurt You Now”).

Simone was born in Rio and currently lives in California, U.S.A. She also works as a translator – having translated Girl On the Train to Brazilian Portuguese –, and has worked as a literary editor. She has two B.A. degrees, Journalism and Publishing (UFRJ), and has a Master’s Degree in Literary Theory (UERJ). She’s now working on her Ph.D. thesis on the same university. Her next project is a graphic novel in partnership with artist Amanda Miranda, also slated to be published by Companhia das Letras’ graphic novel imprint. It’s a “science auto-fiction” and fantasy work entirely set in Rio de Janeiro.
