Biography
A graduate of the ENS and the Sorbonne, Raphaël Jerusalmy opted for a career in the Israeli intelligence services before getting involved in humanitarian work and then becoming a dealer in rare and antiquarian books in Tel Aviv. Three of his novels have been published by Actes Sud: Sauver Mozart (2012, Prix Emmanuel Roblès 2013, Prix de l’ENS Cachan 2013), La Confrérie des chasseurs de livres (2013) and Évacuation (2017) were well-received by readers, the critics and foreign publishers (they have been translated into English, Italian, Spanish and Hebrew). In 2016, he published as part of Bruno Doucey’s Sur le fil des éditions collection Les obus jouaient à pigeon vole, an account of Guillaume Apollinaire’s experiences in the trenches of the First World War, twenty-four hours before the explosion of the shell which injured him in the head. This book, which won the Prix Coup de coeur voted on by the readers of Rendez-vous de l’histoire de Blois 2016, is now being republished in the Babel collection.
