Leitão, Miriam

Miriam Leitão is one of Brazil’s most influential economic journalists. Her precise, clear analyses have been published since 1991 in a daily column on O Globo, one of the country’s most widely-read newspapers. Miriam is also an economics commentator on TV Globo, the cable channel Globonews, and the radio station CBN, and has worked on other important publications in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. She has won various prizes, among which the prestigious Maria Moors Cabot Prize, awarded by Columbia University’s School of Journalism. Recently, Leitão was awarded Brazil’s largest non-fiction literary prize, the Jabuti, for her book Brazilian Saga: A People’s long struggle for its currency. Besides her nonfiction projects, Miriam Leitão is a poet, a children’s books writer and at the moment is working on a novel.
