The question asked by this little book is quite plain: can we go beyond the acknowledgment of crisis and impotence that philosophy has been proclaiming for more than a century? Can we talk about science without an inferiority complex, about God without obscurantism, about existence without bar-room philosophizing, about politics without cynicism, and about ethics without sermonizing? That is, is philosophy able to help to understand and go beyond the aporia of the present that it took over?

All of these are pressing questions for individuals today and we must not be afraid of talking about these big issues—questions that mankind has been concerned with since the beginning of time. Indeed, philosophy is the only way in which we can contemplate these ultimate questions systematically and with respect to the scope of human history.
