“A love story that burns with mystery.” – Manuel Rivas

The Stolen Hours is a choral novel that carries us through the lives of three generations. it shows us that love affects us at any age and that when things don’t go our way, something unexpected can always bring change.

Naive love.
Broken love.
And a clandestine love that defies the passage of time.

The death of an old man with a message in his hand, “Tell me you love me”, uncovers a passionate love story that never ended. The loss of the deceased man’s memories doesn’t prevent his relatives discovering this love story and the repercussions it still has in the present. Set in the disordered Spain of 1979, two years before the divorce law was passed, two families are swept up by this old secret and by the need to change their lives.

Stolen Hours is the cryptic message found in the hand of an elderly man when he dies. This phrase uncovers an intense story of love and infidelity that has been kept secret for years. The loss of the deceased man’s memories doesn’t prevent his relatives discovering this love story and the repercussions it still has in the present.

Easy to read, intense and with a vigorous pace, this novel transports us to Spain in 1979, two years before the divorce law came into force. It is a society characterised by the struggle between conservative thinkers and those seeking change and freedom. The story takes place over only a few days, yet is is enough time to become immersed in the worlds of two families. On one hand we are introduced to a young, couple, independent liberals who decide to separate and wait until the law legitimises their situation. On the other, we meet a couple immersed in a toxic relationship in which a woman is humiliated and alienated by her husband, an aggressive, rude and manipulative man who she depends on psychologically and financially. Meanwhile, the teenage grandchildren are uncovering their grandparents unknown past while also embarking on relationships, discovering love and sex for the first time. The young characters will soon understand that love is not what it seems and that individual interests, betrayal and falsehood sometimes also form part of the most intense love stories.

Stolen Hours is a novel that sings with love and emotion that shows us that love is ageless, that love changes and is rarely as we had dreamed.

María Solar’s writing shines and she commands a strong narrative pace in this story of people who dominate or are dominated, love killed by routine, infidelities that come to light and teenagers who discover sex and betrayal. .. a novel full of feelings that absorbs you in its pages and introduces the reader to characters living in a moment, not so far in the past, when to live unrestricted was an unattainable task.
